Heavenly Delish Creamy White Chocolate Ice Cream With Caramel Topping

Hey, that’s me! You are what you eat, right? I am one creamy full fat uber sweet ice cream with caramel topping. An ice cream or two (creamy, of course) makes part of my regular everyday diet. And now, more than ever I am sure that the problem I haven’t seen my abs yet is that my diet contains too much milk and dairy products. And ice creams. In these days I’ve been asking people around about their eating habits and I’ve realized what I already knew-that I eat too much fat. But, what surprised me is the fact that the great looking guys and girls I know however use dairy products. I thought they eliminated them completely, but no! They do put milk in their coffee and they eat their oatmeal with yoghurt. They eat cheese, too. And butter. But not every single day, I suppose. Or they do it moderately, while I exaggerate. As always.

My plan is to read about nutrition for triathletes and try to find what fits me. I am intolerant to gluten, I have trouble to digest baker’s yeast  and my stomach hurts me when eating broccoli, cabbage, pistachio and don’t know what else. I think I am a perfect case for nutritionists. I will try to find some nutrition tips that works (at least for me) and I’ll share them with you. On the other hand, I would like to know what do you eat and what do you avoid. Does someone of you have some tips for me, or some literature where I could find out more about this topic?

I don’t know how many times during my trainings I think that it would be great if I had a few kilos less. I know that I would run faster and make less fatigue on bike and swimming. But then I think about an ice cream and I realize that, in this moment, I find it harder to hesitate to gelato’s temptation than to make more fatigue during my trainings. It’s still summer, I’m in Italy and gelato is everywhere. Maybe further on I will try to make myself fitter. Meanwhile, I will try to understand what I am doing wrong (besides devouring ice cream) and how I can be better.

I don’t like being hungry. No, sorry, I hate it. I feel that my body burns a lot of calories and I know that I could lose weight easily, but I need motivation for that. And I need gelatos and peanut butters to disappear from the Earth for some time!

Asics

When I say running shoes I mean Asics. During my “running life” I have tried a few brands. Asics are not the prettiest one that’s for sure, but they are definitely the best (at least for me!).  I fell in love with my first pair of Asics so hard that I decided not to change them. I ran my first half marathon with Asics Gel Galaxy 5 and that makes them my favorite so far.

Galaxy 5

I bought my first Asics in Belgrade. They were 38,5. I took the second and the third pair (Galaxy 5) without even trying them-I just entered the store, chose a model, asked for my number and paid for them. And everything went just fine.

Kayano 21

I ran with my Galaxy 5 until they fell apart. This winter I had to change them. Since I could afford a more expensive model (I paid my Galaxy just 35 euros), I opted for Kayano 21 (140 euros). When I tried them in the store (I moved to Trieste in the meanwhile) they seemed to small, so, instead of 38.5 I took 39. I read some reviews online that confirmed what I thought. They were really smaller. Kayano 21 are great, I really like double amortization, it’s like you were running on pillows, or something. The problem is that they are too rigid. Or too small?! Maybe it’s great that they haven’t changed during 350K. My right foot started hurting me the last week of June and I am pretty sure that the pain is caused by the shoes. Sincerely, I didn’t want to change them yet, but today I thought that maybe I should.

Oberon 9

Today I bought my new pair of shoes (outlet price is 60 euros), Gel Oberon 9. They are not as cool as Kayano21, but I wanted to take half size bigger shoes. Oberon 9 is something in between Galaxy 5 and Kayano 21. I hope they will suit me and that I will run miles and miles before I change them. And I hope I am not too spoiled by Kayano’s double amortization and rigid form, so that I could be satisfied with this inferior level… Time will tell.

My doubts

When I came home I checked the numbers and centimeters. I found out that my Galaxy 5 num. 38.5 are 25cm, Kayano 21 num. 39 are 24,5cm and Oberon 9 num. 39,5 are 25cm. Why couldn’t I see that before buying my Kayano??? But, sincerely, do you see any difference? They seem all same size to me O.o

“Failing to plan is planning to fail”, Alan Lakein

I like plans, tables, graphs and statistics and, as I said I am a goal-oriented person. Setting goals keeps me motivated. I just can’t function without them.

My GOAL

My project named “Triathlete Wannabe” started on Wednesday 12th August 2015 will end on September 2016 with an Ironman 70.3race in Pula, Croatia. The goal is to complete the race in one piece. The mantra in the following year will be: “September 2016 Pula”. Until then, I will set some minor goals (races) in order not to lose motivation and not to be too stressed when the great day arrives. For now, I have booked the following dates in my calendar:

-29/08/2015 Padriciano (ITA) 6,7K;

-26/09/2015 Jesolo (ITA) Sprint Triathlon;

-25/10/2015 Ljubljana (SLO) Half-Marathon.

Training plans

My very first idea was to be my own coach, so I downloaded some free programs from this awesome website, beginnertriathlete. Then I thought that maybe I could partially delegate the responsibility of my project to a professional, so I contacted Dejan Patrcevic, Croatian PRO triathlete placed 24th in Ironman World Championship 2008. I think we will get along just fine.

The previous six months

Since Dejan asked me about my trainings in the previous six months, I decided to make  stats and here are the results:

-Gym: I was going periodically to the gym, 0-4 times a week until April 2015. Then I made a pause and got back to gym in July 2015;

-Swimming: I was really bad at it, but that’s nothing new. In the winter period from September 2014 to May 2015 I went 7-10 times to swim for an hour, an hour and half;

-Cycling: It was Wednesday 29th July 2015 that I bought my first great lovely beautiful new bike that I named Pedro and since then I rode 300,27Km in 6 trainings, with the average speed of 22,7Km/h;

-Running: on July I didn’t run. During the period from March 2015 to August 2015 I did 30 trainings and ran 292,58Km with average pace 5:32. My average was 6 trainings of running per month! It so lame :(

To sum up, I am a beginner. If there’s anyone else who is, more or less, at the same fitness level and wants to join me on my way to becoming a half iron woman, feel free to do it and, please, share your experience and results with me!

Me, now (sorry for the SWOT)

I am 27 years old and I work full-time. I am not married, I don’t have kids. Pets neither. I am 170cm tall and weight (more or less) 60kg.

Strengths
I have a gritty determination to succeed.
I have a  professional triathlete by my side who will help me reach my goal.
I have plenty of time to dedicate to my project.
I have one whole year ahead to prepare myself for the race.

Weaknesses
I have never been continuous in my trainings.
My right feet is hurting me (I have to see a doctor).
I am chronically suffering from anaemia.
I have a gluten intolerance and there is some food that I simply cannot digest.

Opportunities
I live in Trieste: I can run outside and ride my great lovely beautiful new bike almost during the whole year. I can swim in the sea until September, and then I can choose one of two (or three?) swimming pools.
Dejan will help me on my way.
I have everything I need, from time to equipment.

Threats:
My stupid right foot. Can I change it? :(

My equipment

I adore my running shoes, Asics Kayano 21 and I am in love with Pedro, my Trek Domane 4,3. My favorite gadgets are Garmin Forreruner 405 for running and Garmin Edge 810 for cycling. I have also a Garmin Vivosmart bracelet that I like and I am putting now on my wishlist Garmin Fenix 3. While running I listen to music on my Blueberry Redcat mp4 player (I guess you have never heard about it, but I assure you it is great!). I will put on my wishlist Sony waterproof walkman. Ops, I realize just now that I have to buy a TRI Suit. But I will think about that later.

I will keep you updated.

About me

Who I am

My name is Sonja Savic, I am Serbian living in Italy (Pozarevljanka living in Trieste, to be more precise), 27 years old and I like challanges. I would describe myself as an ambitious, organized and goal-oriented person.

Why triathlon?

I have been working, studying and doing sports (at the amateur level) for years. Whereas recently I have finished my post-graduate studies, all of a sudden I have plenty of spare time I haven't been used to have. Therefore, I decided to try my hand at triathlon.

Previous experience

...with triathlon

It's not that it's the first time I heard about this sport. On the contrary, I trained with Triathlon Club Pozarevac in Serbia and finished one cross triathlon race in Kragujevac (Serbia) on Saturday, 02 June 2012. Apparently, I was the last arrived. I was bad at swimming (15:21) because I started last, behind the others, in order to avoid being hit by someone. I was bad at cycling because I wasn't practicing cycling, I didn't have my own bike and the one I borrowed for the race was bad. Moreover, I didn't know how to change gears and the track started with a hill. It was a really awful experience. I wanted to quit! The running went bad because I was out of energy. In my opinion my lack of energy was due not only to my scarce preparation, but also to the fact that I had never done two or more diffrent sport activities at once.

..with swimming

I would describe my technique as poor. My father taught me how to swim when I was little and then Mateja Markovic (the coach of TK Pozarevac) gave me some advice, but that's it. I swim occasionally. Very occasionally, like a few times during the year. I like swimming, though.

..with running

I have been running for some years now. My PBs are: 5K 24:31 (25/09/2015); 10K 54:06 (04/11/2014) and 21K 1h58 (19/05/2015). I participated in a few races during my lifetime.

..with cycling

I have never had my bike (well, I did, when I was 7, maybe, but that doesn't count). A very few times I went cycling with Mateja Markovic (TKP), borrowing a bike from him every time. Once (17/08/2015) we went by bike from Pozarevac to Kladovo (160-170km). I was on a city-bike. With no cycling shorts (nor shoes, obviously). I remember it as a very painful experience.

Starting from.... today!

There's one thing I have always hated: starting from tomorrow, or, even worse, monday. As for me, today is always the best day to start! This evening I will go to the gym and I will consider this training as a start of my new way of living.

Why blog, why going social?

I have always wanted to share something from my life with others, to tell a story, to discuss, to advice and be adviced, but, first of all, I didn't have time to write and second of all, I didn't feel like I had something special to write about continuously. I just wanted to share a thought from time to time. I don't know how it is going to be, how often I will write and what I will write about, but I am sure it won't be all about triathlon. I would really appreciate if you could leave your comments, share your opinion and/or give me some advice, so that I could know that you read me. I will try to keep this blog for my personal motivation, hoping that some of you will join me on my trip and make dialogue from my monologues.
